ODENOH
Development Organization for a New Haiti (ODENOH) is a youth-led Haitian organization advancing environmental justice and women's economic empowerment through community-driven circular economy and enterprise solutions.
We believe environmental sustainability and economic opportunity can—and must—go hand in hand. When women have the skills, resources, and opportunities to lead green businesses, they strengthen their livelihoods while helping their communities become healthier, cleaner, and more resilient.
Our approach starts with local communities. We work with women, schools, markets, and community groups to turn environmental challenges into opportunities for livelihoods, entrepreneurship, and lasting community change. We prioritize women while ensuring that children, people with disabilities, and other vulnerable community members are included in the benefits of development.
Our Work
Our work focuses on two interconnected priorities: environmental justice and women's economic empowerment. In Haiti, environmental vulnerability and economic vulnerability are rarely separate. The women we work with often experience both—and that creates an opportunity to address them together.
Environmental Justice & Circular Economy
Haiti's environmental challenges are also opportunities to create healthier communities and stronger local economies. We help communities reduce waste, protect their environment, and develop practical solutions that turn discarded materials into value.
Our work includes:
Recycling and environmental education in schools, markets, and communities
Community-based waste reduction and collection initiatives, particularly in areas affected by plastic pollution
Waste-to-value and green enterprise opportunities that can create local livelihoods
Community clean-up and environmental awareness campaigns that restore public spaces and strengthen local stewardship
By reducing pollution and building local solutions for managing waste, we help communities protect their environment while creating opportunities for income and entrepreneurship.
Women's Economic Empowerment
When women have the resources and opportunity to build successful livelihoods, families and communities benefit.
We support women entrepreneurs and community-based economic initiatives through:
Business development and financial literacy training for women entrepreneurs
Village savings and loan associations (VSLAs) that help women access savings, credit, and financial support
Support for women-led green businesses in recycling, agriculture, sustainable commerce, and other environmentally responsible enterprises
Skills and connections that help women start, strengthen, and grow their businesses
For a woman running a small business in a local market, a cleaner environment and a stronger livelihood are not separate priorities. They are part of the same goal: building a more secure future for herself, her family, and her community.
