Building a More Sustainable Haiti—From Communities to Communities
ODENOH is a Haitian, youth-led community organization working at the intersection of environmental sustainability and economic opportunity.
We work with women, youth, farmers, schools, markets, and community groups to turn local challenges into practical solutions that strengthen livelihoods, protect the environment, and build more resilient communities.
Our work connects urban and rural Haiti.
In urban communities, we focus on circular economy solutions that reduce waste, encourage environmental responsibility, and create opportunities for local enterprise.
In rural communities, we support sustainable agriculture, agroforestry, conservation, and climate-resilient livelihoods that help people protect the land and natural resources on which they depend.
Across both settings, we believe that environmental progress and economic opportunity can reinforce one another.
OUR WORK
Circular Communities & Waste
We help schools, markets, and communities develop practical ways to reduce waste, recover recyclable materials, improve environmental practices, and turn discarded materials into value.
Our work includes environmental education, recycling, waste reduction, community collection initiatives, cleanups, composting, and youth-led community action.
We are especially interested in models that can begin small, be tested locally, and grow through community participation.
Conservation, Agroforestry & Climate Resilience
We work with rural communities to promote practices that strengthen livelihoods while protecting land and natural resources.
Our experience includes agroforestry, crop diversification, reforestation, sustainable agricultural practices, and community-based environmental stewardship.
As ODENOH grows, we aim to deepen this work through locally led conservation, restoration, climate resilience, and responsible land and resource management.
Green Enterprise & Sustainable Livelihoods
We believe environmental challenges can also create opportunities for entrepreneurship and income.
Working with partner organizations, ODENOH supports women, youth, and community entrepreneurs with practical business development, financial skills, environmental awareness, and opportunities to adopt environmentally responsible practices.
We are developing green enterprise approaches in areas such as recycling, sustainable agriculture, reuse, responsible commerce, and other locally appropriate environmental activities.
Our goal is not simply to create businesses.
It is to help build livelihoods that contribute to healthier communities and a healthier environment.
Women and Youth at the Center
Women and young people are important leaders in the communities where we work.
Women are central to local economies and household decision-making, while young people can become powerful environmental leaders when they are given meaningful responsibility.
ODENOH creates opportunities for both to learn, lead, organize, and participate in solutions that affect their communities.
We also seek to ensure that children, people with disabilities, and other vulnerable community members are included in the benefits of development.

Our approach is intentionally connected.
In cities: we work on waste, circular economy, environmental education, community action, and green enterprise.
In rural areas: we work on agroforestry, sustainable agriculture, conservation, restoration, and climate resilience.
Across both: we connect environmental action with livelihoods, local leadership, and community ownership.

We start with local relationships and practical ideas.
We work with communities to test solutions, learn what works, improve them, and build models that can be adapted elsewhere.
We believe lasting development is strongest when communities are not simply beneficiaries of a project, but participants in building the solution.
